New Theatrical Production "RISE" Challenges the Way We See Addiction

SAN MATEO, CA – What if addiction isn’t what we think it is? A new theatrical production, RISE: A Journey of Addiction & Redemption, forces audiences to confront the harsh truths of addiction while offering a message of hope, resilience, and second chances.
The show, created by Maggie de Vera, features nine deeply personal monologues, each depicting a different battle with addiction. These raw, emotional stories range from a once-promising athlete hooked on painkillers to a mother hiding alcoholism behind PTA meetings—stories that challenge the audience to reflect on their own lives.
"Addiction isn’t just about substances—it’s about pain, loss, and survival," says de Vera. "This production is designed to spark conversations, inspire action, and let people know they are not alone."
The performance will take place at Chill Spot Rendezvous Ice Cream Café, an intimate venue that allows for a deeply immersive experience. Using minimal staging, raw storytelling, and multimedia projections, the production strips away distractions and puts the focus where it belongs—on the voices of those who have fought addiction.

Chill Spot Rendezvous is casting for RISE: A Theatrical Journey of Addiction & Redemption, a powerful, raw, and transformative production featuring nine deeply emotional monologues about addiction, survival, and second chances.
✅ ROLES AVAILABLE:
Jason (Male, 20s) – Former athlete, opioid addict turned counselor.
Maria (Female, 40s) – Single mother battling alcoholism.
Tyrell (Male, 30s) – Ex-gang member who turns his life around.
Lucy (Female, 50s) – Former prescription pill addict, now an advocate.
Rico or Rica (Male or female, Late 20s) – Fentanyl overdose survivor, harm reduction activist.
David or Diana (Male or female, 30s) – Formerly homeless meth addict, now a caseworker.
Sierra (Female, Teen) – Social media addict recovering from self-harm.
Anthony (Male, 70s) – Heroin addict for 50 years, now a mentor.
Dr. Victor or Victoria Ramirez (Male or female, Late 60s) – Former heroin addict, now a professor of addiction studies.
JACK (Male 50s) – Veteran, PTSD & Alcoholism Recovery
A veteran struggling with survivor’s guilt and alcoholism until one phone call changes everything.
💰 Compensation: Non-paid, but each actor will receive up to 25 complimentary tickets to give away to friends and family or resell.

Stage Manager – Oversees logistics, cues, and transitions.
Lighting Designer – Manages lighting for emotional impact.
Sound Technician – Handles music, voiceovers, and sound effects.
Projection/Multimedia Operator – Runs visuals for scene transitions.
House Manager – Manages audience seating and guest experience.
Marketing & Promotions Assistant – Spreads awareness via social media, press, and community outreach.
💰 Compensation: Non-paid, but each team member receives 25 complimentary tickets to distribute or resell.
